Snokomish Elementary School was a new construction for a 655-student elementary school in Surrey, on which I was an Architectural Technologist from Design Development to Construction, and in particular was involved in the process of creating drawings and documentation for the municipal Building Permit, consultant coordination, and Issue for Construction phases. I participated in client, consultant, stakeholder, and design meetings. I collaborated with my colleagues in developing the Revit BIM model for construction documents (plans, sections, elevations, and schedules), detailing, tendering (revisions and addenda), and architectural visualisation. In addition to the programme requirements, this project is notable for the inclusion of a Neighbourhood Learning Centre and an all-electric strategy for Greenhouse Gas emission reductions; which required comprehensive coordination with various authorities having jurisdiction, bylaw and code requirements, and professional engineers. Two energy models were completed for building permitting, and for costing and value engineering. The value engineering process resulted in negotiations to meet the project budget, and to select a preferred contractor. During the construction phase, I gained exposure to construction process and administration by attending site visits with the architect every 2 weeks for 6 months which included site walkthroughs, meetings, and minutes. This project was highly informative to my development in particular for being involved in the design, coordination, and construction administration of a multi-stakeholder public project.
