George Pringle Secondary School was a new construction for a 1200-student elementary school in West Kelowna, on which I was an Architectural Technologist from Programming to Design Development, and in particular was involved in the process of creating drawings and documentation for the municipal Building Permit, consultant coordination, and submission for Request for Proposal phases. I participated in client, consultant, stakeholder, and design meetings. I collaborated with my colleagues in developing the Revit BIM model for construction documents (plans, sections, elevations, and schedules), detailing, tendering (revisions and addenda), and architectural visualisation. In addition to the programme requirements, this project is notable for the inclusion of a Neighbourhood Learning Centre, multiple sports fields, a geothermal system as a strategy for Greenhouse Gas emission reductions; which required comprehensive coordination with various authorities having jurisdiction, bylaw and code requirements, and professional engineers. The proposed design was used by the contractor for subcontract bid evaluation and comparisons. This project was highly informative to my development in particular for being involved in a Design-Bid-Build competition for a multi-stakeholder public project. The proposed design won the competition and was accepted by the Ministry of Education, upon which a CCDC14 Design-Build Stipulated Price Contract was awarded to the firm.
